The King of Kings' little girl - 6th Nov 2006

Last weekend a friend of mine had been to Mysore and had been to see the palaces and this is what he had to say after he had visited a few palaces of the kings who reigned then. Every king seemed to be pretty religious and they had set up big places of worship for themselves and their families. And they had huge armies which trained everyday and were well skilled. As this friend of mine went around looking at the places and as the guide explained the legend of these kings and the fights bravely fought and how they died and how they lost their kingdom, my friend noticed something. Almost all the kings were brave and had huge armies. All of them had built huge palaces which now lay in ruins. Everytime an enemy won the war they tore down the palace in the hope of finding some hidden treasure. What once stood as a massive structure of grandeur now stood in ruins. This was repeated palace after palace. After going to all these palaces, the guide also suggested to visit a church which was the largest cathedral in south Asia. It was built in the early 1930s.

As my friend was sitting in the calm of the church after being to the palaces which now lay in ruins, he heard God speak to him and this what he had to say later on. Every King was a mighty King with huge armies. They were noble men who fought for their people. But they didn't know my God. Inspite of their huge armies and their courageous fight they lost the war even when fighting on native soil, because though they had everything else, their trust wasn't in the right place. As he went palace after palace, he says there was beauty even in the ruins that were left and one can only imagine how beautiful the original palace itself would have been. What rich lives our kings would have lived. If only they knew our God, the kings of kings.

In the bible as the history of Israelites is narrated, everytime they trusted God they won their battles. Everytime they looked away from him and looked to others they lost their wars.

God never lets down his children. Everytime we face a war without him, no matter how big our army is and no matter how many people favour us and are on our side and no matter how strong or how right we are, WE WILL LOSE. The corollary of this is so true as well. Everytime we face a war with him, no matter how small our army is, no matter if no one is one our side and no matter how weak we are, WE WILL WIN.

God will never let his children down. He says - Though a mother may forget her child, I will not forget you. He says - Those who trust in me will never be put to shame. He says - Though a young lion may suffer hunger, those who seek me will lack no good thing. He says - Trust in me and I will deliver you. He says - Be still before me and wait for me to act. He says - I will not abandon the faithful and will raise them to possess the land.

Taking refuge from him would mean trusting him completely and not running to anyone else and not looking upto anyone or anything. Just being still before him and continually calling on him with thanksgiving and praise. This is sometimes hard because we feel so tempted to run to people close to us or to try out things on our own but taking refuge in God would mean sacrificing all of that and just being still before him and waiting for him.

One of my colleagues happens to be a very good friend of mine. I really like this girl a lot and it hurts me to see her in any kind of problem or pain and so I end up advising her often. Once it so happened that when we were discussing about something she said things must be easy for me because I am God's little girl. That was probably the best compliment I received ever. God's little girl, I loved being called that and every once in a while I like reminding myself of this fact and basking in it. God's little girl - The king of Kings' little girl. That's exactly how God looks at each one of us- My little girl / boy. That's how God looks at my colleague and friend as well. He loves being our father and is delighted when we reach out to him as his children. He will never let his children down. He will prosper and bless his children.

Romans 8:16 - The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
Psalm 34:5 - Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Psalm 37 :
39, 40 - The salvation of the just is from the LORD, their refuge in time of distress. The LORD helps and rescues them, rescues and saves them from the wicked, because in God they take refuge.
