So we stand there holding our laser tag guns, with our laser
tag jackets strapped up. It’s all dark around us except for the lights from my
laser tag jacket. The music doesn’t help either. It’s all eerie and spooky. In
the little light that is there, all I can see is more eerie stuff. How did I
get talked into this??
I knew this game would last about 20 minutes. After what I thought
was a good 5 minutes, I checked the time and realized we were just about a
minute since we started!!!
But after about a couple of minutes I actually began to
enjoy it. It was a lot of fun, running and shooting and hiding. My husband and
I were on one team and two of our friends were in the enemy team. Initially I
just followed close behind my husband, too scared to do anything. But in a
few minutes I began to enjoy it so much
that I helped create diversions, and helped fight. It was really fun. My
husband loves this kind of games and that made this even more fun. And I
enjoyed it so much that I’ve been asking friends of ours if they’d go laser tag
fighting with us.
Is there something you are afraid to do or face or try?? Do
it anyway. Do it, in spite of the fear. Once you get started, it’s not as
fearful and who knows you might even end up having fun.
A friend of ours was sharing with us about Moses and the Red
Sea. About when the Red Sea was divided and the Israelites were asked to cross
the dry land, between the walls of water. Think of yourself in that situation. Isn’t
that a scary situation?? You have huge walls of water on either sides and you
have to walk through in the midst of it. It takes faith to step between walls
of water. It must have been scary for them. But they still walked through it.
One foot in front of the other. And then the next foot forward.
Get started. Get going.
When we were trekking at the Swiss Alps, there were places
which were a little riskier. And every time we were at such a place I would be
extra careful. I would call out to my husband to be extra careful. I would
watch out more for my daughter, hold her tighter and be more alert than usual.
When I think of it, I think that’s what fear was meant to do. Fear was probably
just meant to tell us to be extra cautious, extra alert, but to enjoy the
climb. To enjoy the journey and get there to the top and enjoy the view. But
sometimes we let fear stop us. Sometimes we just decide not to trek at all. Sometimes we let fear get the better of us.
Don’t let fear stop you. Do it afraid. And one, you will
eventually enjoy the game/climb and two, it makes you stronger/ bolder.
Don’t let fear hold you back. Get started.

God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of
power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result
in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].
